Dr. van Schalkwyk is originally from Toronto. She completed a master’s degree at the University of Ottawa in microbiology and immunology in 1995 before attending medical school at Dalhousie University, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She then completed her Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency at the University of British Columbia in 2004, followed by additional training in infectious diseases at UBC. She has been in clinical practice since 2005, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UBC. She is the current Head of the Department of OB/GYN at BC Women’s Hospital.
The mainstay of her practice is to provide professional, thorough, compassionate and well-informed care to her OB and GYN patients.
In addition to her busy general OB/GYN practice, she is actively involved in research and the provision of specialized care for women with reproductive infectious diseases.
